Call you up in the middle of the night
Like a firefly without a light
You were there like a slow torch burning
I was a key that could use a little turning

So tired that I couldn't even sleep
So many secrets I couldn't keep
Promised myself I wouldn't weep
One more promise I couldn't keep

It seems no one can help me now
I'm in too deep
There's no way out
This time I have really led myself astray

CHORUS
Runaway train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here no there

Can you help me remember how to smile
Make it somehow all seem worthwhile
How on earth did I get so jaded
Life's mystery seems so faded

I can go
where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just drownin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runaway train

Everything is cut and dry
Day and night, earth and sky
Somehow I just don't believe it

CHORUS

Bought a ticket for a runaway train
Like a madman laughin' at the rain
Little out of touch, little insane
Just easier than dealing with the pain

Runaway train never comin' back
Runaway train tearin' up the track
Runaway train burnin' in my veins
Runaway but it always seems the same

Programmer Wannabe

Sunday, July 19, 2009

It may sound absurb but yes I'm a Programmer Wannabe.I do program at work and though it’s not really the nature of my work... I do LOVE programming; it keeps my mind busy all day. OK not the whole day but at least it keeps my mind pre-occupied, it makes me awake during office hours.

I don’t have any programming degree I'm just one of those that hate programming subjects, so please bear with me, these programs I'm talking about are those simple ones, either that do text and file manipulation under windows system and for terms that I may have wrongly used please do correct me... aarrgh I envy those programmers that really do great programs and apps.

I don’t care about program subjects those days. If I only knew that I will be doing programs these days, I would pay more attention with my subjects or at least change course to any program related course like Com Sci or IT.

Let’s get back to the subject, hmm by the way what is our subject… LOL nothing really, I just want to blurt out how I hate programming in my college days and how I love it now.

It started with programming in Allegro Skill, then started a little on Visual Basic 6, then a little in Web programming, that’s it from then on I started loving doing programs not it only makes our task easy but it challenges me how to make it work. Having only a background of programming only from computer subjects that I did not pay attention and now doing a program that will be used by our department for their projects, well a not so challenging task isn’t? To me of course it’s more than a challenge. And to make the story short, I finished the program… yeah boss!!! I’m rather happy finishing that program… it’s a compilation of routines that helps our team members to do their task with fewer clicks and do this easier. That’s good, that’s good. But after a while when I try to debug or update that program, guess what? As the main author it also gives me a hard time just to check a simple bug, its not because I’m just newbie that time or something but how I wrote that program… that time I did not pay attention with variables and the way how I wrote them, I simply create aa to aaa to another aaaa… and it makes my job a lot more difficult. I did not even use any re-usable functions or a procedure that’s why it makes that code is long which it shouldn't.

So for those just starting doing programs and having to formulate their basic standards here are additional tips

  1. Check how you assign variables and it should be a little relevant to what data or routine it should hold or process, this way when something goes wrong you can easily check the error and what is causing it (imagine if you want to look for “aa” variable in the source code without stumbling to “aaa” or “aaaa” variables in the source code). Global variables should be in CAPS, Local variables be in first letter in lower caps camel case and functions and procedure in First letter upper Caps camel case
    • Assigning of proper variable name

    Assigning a variable for the total Number of Top side components in a PCB board file:

    totTopSideCmps – good

    totalNumTopSideComps – better, this way when other start to update and review your code they can easily know what does it hold or do

    • Variable Cases

    GLOBALVAR = 0

    localVariable = 0

    ProcedureOrFunction()

  2. Use procedures or functions if possible so as to make the updating and debugging easier
    if (x==2) {
        if (a=0) {
            a = b
            c = d
        }
        x = x + 1
    }
    if (y==3) {
        if (b=1) {
            a = b
            c = d
        }
        y = x + 2
    }

    Notice that we can create a procedure for the a = b and c = d routine, check for the update code fragment, when we need to update the code say this time a = e instead of a = b we just want to change the content in procedureAandCRoutine, this way we only change it in one area and minimize the error of omitting to update the other part of the code

    if (x==2) {
        if (a=0) {
            procedureAandDRoutine()
        }
        x = x + 1
    }
    if (y==3) {
        if (b=1) {
            procedureAandDRoutine()
        }
        y = x + 2
    }
    procedure procedureAandDRoutine() {
        a = b
        c = d
    }

    *** take note that the sample above is just an example

  3. Use standard indentions to be used all through out in your source code, avoid using space characters as indents. I suggest you use tabs to make it uniform – this is to make your code readable and to be able to follow into your source code routine by routine

  4. And finally have a good knowledge in the program language your using, I can tell that doing program is easy but how easy it is? Is the question, a good programmer to a certain language will have some difficulties at start when started doing program to another language, why? It’s because he needs to know the correct and proper syntax for that language, and when he learns the correct and proper syntax then everything will be easy since old habits from the previous language can be carried over into the new program language. Reviewing program documentations, reviewing program source codes and reading tutorials from internet are ways to learn more about the program language.

I may have missed some basic tips for better programming, please feel free to comment about it, for others doing repetitive or procedural task in your office you may consider having a program to do it...

Yeah boss!!!

Anime Craze

I don’t really remember what year I started to love watching Anime, maybe in my high school days and continued till now. I’m not really an avid fan for ALL anime series, but here are those I’ve watch and until now still happy to remember these Anime(s)

  • Dragon Ball
  • Ghost Fighter
  • Gundam Seed and Gundam Destiny
  • Hajime No Ippo
  • Baki
  • Flame of Recca
  • Hunter X Hunter
  • Shaman King
  • Bleach
  • Naruto
  • One Piece.

Watching anime series maybe considered unproductive to others or just a waste of time, since being addictive to this may cause the person to day dream (sometimes I do this until now), day dreaming of being the main protagonist of that anime series or day dreaming guessing what will happen in the next episode, and to others instead of watching can do other sensible task like helping in house chores.

But being unproductive is just the other side of the coin, watching anime also have its good side aside from going home early, keeping us away from drugs, enjoying watching our hero beat the crap out of the bad guys, it also gives some good values that makes an individual to be a better person, under these fictional story lines are values such as perseverance, friendship, faith and honesty.

For those who have fast internet connections at home, and want to watch your favorite Anime series you can check out Anime Season and Naruto Wire, I recommend these two since it gives links to anime series hosted either by MySpace, Megavideo, or Veoh.

Check my Son Gokou toy pix here… and Brolly here

Enjoy!!!
